Description

The Cinc Omnibus cookbook provides the tools to build various Cinc projects. This cookbook was originally modeled after
the omnibus cookbook.

The toolchain package is sourced unconditionally from the Cinc Project's mirror (omnitruck.cinc.sh) on every supported platform — the previous Chef Progress fallback has been removed.

Requirements

  • Chef 16 or higher

Platform

  • AlmaLinux 8+
  • Amazon Linux 2023
  • CentOS Stream 9+
  • Debian 12+
  • Fedora
  • FreeBSD 13+
  • macOS 14+
  • Oracle Linux 8+
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8+
  • Rocky Linux 8+
  • SUSE Linux Enterprise
  • Ubuntu 20.04+
  • Windows Server 2016+

Current Kitchen verification covers AlmaLinux 8/9/10, Amazon Linux 2023, CentOS Stream 9/10, Debian 12/13, Fedora latest, openSUSE Leap 15/16, Oracle Linux 8/9, Rocky Linux 8/9/10, and Ubuntu 20.04/22.04/24.04/26.04. macOS, FreeBSD, and Windows are exercised via kitchen.exec.yml against real builder hosts.

Resources

Resource documentation:

  • [cinc_omnibus_builder](documentation/cinc_omnibus_builder.md)
  • [cinc_omnibus_msys2](documentation/cinc_omnibus_msys2.md)

cinc_omnibus_builder

Configures a build host for Cinc Omnibus projects.

cinc_omnibus_builder 'default'

The resource installs platform build dependencies, installs the Cinc-built omnibus-toolchain, creates the omnibus user (Unix-likes) and cache directory, writes a Git configuration, and writes the toolchain load shim (load-omnibus-toolchain.sh on Unix, load-omnibus-toolchain.ps1 on Windows).

Bootstrap

A standalone bootstrap is available under [bootstrap/](bootstrap/) for setting up a fresh node as a Cinc Omnibus build host without a Chef Server. See [bootstrap/README.md](bootstrap/README.md) for usage. See [migration.md](migration.md) when upgrading between major versions.

Maintainers

This cookbook is maintained by the Sous Chefs. The Sous Chefs are a community of Chef cookbook maintainers working together to maintain important cookbooks. If you’d like to know more please visit sous-chefs.org or come chat with us on the Chef Community Slack in #sous-chefs.
